West Ham United must make a move for Barcelona defender Jordi Alba

West Ham United must make a move for Barcelona defender Jordi Alba, who is being linked to the club by Spanish news outlet fichajes.net.

A move for the Spain international makes a lot of sense and would provide current left-back Aaron Cresswell with some much-needed competition.

The report claims that Alba’s “days are numbered” in Catalonia and the Spaniard is no longer seen by head coach Xavi to be part of his future plans.

The Hammers may be able to exploit Alba’s current contract with the Spanish giants too, it expires in the summer of 2024.

Alba would strengthen the Irons weak defensive depth and bring a wealth of experience with him to the London Stadium.

Despite being 33 years old Alba would be a massive upgrade to the Hammers defence and would provide David Moyes with a lovely alternative to Creswell.

With the Premier League schedule ramping up after the World Cup break, West Ham needs more options in their defence, especially with the UEFA Europa Conference League to consider.

Alba could be used perfectly in European games, having played in the highest levels of UEFA competitions for countless seasons.

His priceless knowledge could be utilised to the fullest by Moyes and his mentorship within the Hammers dressing room wouldn’t go amiss either.

A loan deal may be West Ham’s best bet in January, it would allow the club to figure out whether making a move for Alba on a permanent basis would be a smart move.

Either way, Alba is still a top-class talent and he would be an extremely useful cog to have in the West Ham United squad.
