West Ham United given Jean-Clair Todibo hope as Juventus eye new transfer
West Ham United have been handed more hope of landing Jean-Clair Todibo this summer following a separate deal involving Juventus, as reported in Corrierre della Sera.
Printed on page 34 of its 18 July edition, the Italian newspaper has claimed that Juve’s advancement in their deal for Juan Cabal from Hellas Verona means they may let the Todibo chase go.
The 24-year-old defender is said to prefer a move to Turin over the Hammers [La Gazzetta dello Sport, 7 July] from current club Nice, as Tim Steidten seeks to reshape Julen Lopetegui’s defensive options.
Arsenal deal helps Juventus deal, which helps West Ham
An interesting transfer merry-go-round has emerged surrounding the potential West Ham capture of Todibo, who may still be keen to agree personal terms at the London Stadium even if Lopetegui’s side was not necessarily his first choice.
According to Football Italia [17 July], Arsenal are set to conclude a deal of around £42m for Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori, with the Serie A club preferring to sell abroad despite Juve’s advancement on personal terms.
This has caused Juve to hijack a deal between rivals Inter Milan and Cabal, appearing to leave the path clear for Todibo to arrive in East London.

Cabal, from Juventus’ perspective, will be a much more financially astute deal with just £10m including bonuses set to be paid to Verona; the 23-year-old Colombian is expected to earn around £20,000 per week for five years.
Should Todibo join West Ham, his wages in the Premier League are expected to far exceed that, with the wise thing to do for the Frenchman to put all his focus into a new chapter in the Premier League rather than wondering what might have been at Juve.
In other West Ham news, a deal for this Arsenal winger could be done in time for their pre-season tour.
