West Ham United given Jaden Philogene transfer hope after what Hull City owner said

West Ham United have already undergone plenty of change this summer.

Wes Foderingham and Luis Guilherme have already been welcomed to the London Stadium while several more faces are expected to arrive.

One player the Hammers have been linked to of late is Hull City star Jaden Philogene (TEAMtalk, 20 June) The winger has been linked with a plethora of clubs including Barcelona (Florian Plettenberg, 30 June).

The Spanish giants are even set to have made a bid on the winger which obviously dents the Hammers’ hopes of achieving the transfer.

However, not all hope is lost as speaking on talkSPORT, in quotes reported via Liverpool World, Hull City owner Acun Ilicali had confirmed he won’t stand in the way if the winger would like to depart.

“Everything is true,” Ilicali said. “Of course, if you ask me, I told my fans that I would sell nobody. My idea in football is not to make money, my idea is to make a strong and bigger club.

“But to make a bigger club, sometimes if a player says I want to go, that’s a different case. For me, if one player changes, it’s not the end of the road.

“But if any of my players, I will never want to ruin their career or their mood because by pushing them because there is a contract. If Jaden wants to move and says he wants to go somewhere, this is something we cannot do too much because this is his life.

“I love all of my boys. For me, their life and career, I am responsible too. If they don’t want to play with us, they don’t want to play with us.”

Why West Ham United should join the race for Jaden Philogene

It’s evident that Philogene is a player that is oozing with class. Players don’t just have bids made for them by Barcelona for no reason.

Although in the grand scheme of things, especially with the Barca interest, it feels unlikely that the Hammers will acquire the services of the youngster, there’s no question that he would be a solid addition.

Although Guilherme has joined and will likely take up one of the flanks, Philogene’s addition could allow Mohammed Kudus or Jarrod Bowen to push further forward and aid the striker.

One of West Ham’s main problem areas last term was that of the number nine role.

West Ham United attacker Michail Antonio
West Ham striker Michail Antonio

Michail Antonio is half the player that he used to be and Danny Ings still hasn’t managed to hit the ground running, scoring just one Premier League goal last season.

And, thanks to this poor run of form from the Jamaica international, there have been talks of the 34-year-old getting a move away from the London-based club this summer [GZH, 28 June].

The addition of the Hull star to West Ham’s ranks would be an unreal coup for Julen Lopetegui and would help improve their attacking prowess tenfold.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers may have to enter a bidding war with Atletico Madrid for a summer target.
