West Ham United: David Moyes sack surely on cards at London Stadium as news emerges

David Moyes’ sack at West Ham could now be on the cards with David Sullivan potentially ready to pull the trigger after a heavy loss to Arsenal on Sunday (12 February).

The Gunners secured their biggest Premier League away win with a ruthless dismantling of the Hammers, their biggest home Premier League defeat and joint-heaviest of all time, along with an 8-2 loss against Blackburn in 1963-64.

Moyes’ men are now without a win in seven games since their 2-0 victory over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on 28 December and things certainly don’t look good for the West Ham boss.

Irons chairman Sullivan was spotted in the stands at the London Stadium for the defeat, with talkSPORT host Jim White taking to X on Sunday (11 February) sharing images during the heavy loss, with the pressure really mounting on the future of Moyes.

News outlet HITC reported on its website on Monday (12 February) that West Ham board are now considering the future of Moyes at the club after Sunday’s debacle as Sullivan is yet to be convinced whether or not to hand him a new contract.

The Hammers chairman would ideally like to keep the Scotsman, but he knows there is resistance from within the club and the 6-0 defeat will not help the “keep Moyes” campaign in East London.

David Sullivan looks ready to pull the trigger on Moyes sack

Not only will there be friction within the club after this sorry loss against Arsenal but also amongst the West Ham fanbase who departed the stadium in their droves when the Gunners were 4-0 up at half-time.

The Hammers fans are well within their right to complain at Moyes and the team as they failed to lay a glove on Arsenal or show any fight or spirit, despite the 6-0 loss.

The fans won’t mind a heavy defeat but it’s even worse when there’s no structure or plan to the West Ham football and Moyes must certainly take the brunt of the blame with his team selection.

The uncertainty behind the scenes can’t continue as it’s clearly now starting to have an impact on matters on the pitch.

There also seems to be friction between Sullivan and Moyes after the January transfer debacle. Failing to secure replacements for Pablo Fornals and Said Benrahma when there is so much of the campaign to go really is strange.

West Ham’s plight right now was made all the more damaging when Moyes deployed Ben Johnson at right wing when he had Maxwel Cornet and Danny Ings on the bench.

There’s no doubt Moyes has done a fabulous job at the London Stadium but fans want to see good and exciting football, fans want to see progress after the Europa Conference League triumph but that isn’t on show right now.

And it won’t be a surprise to see Sullivan pull the trigger in the coming days or weeks.
