West Ham: Tim Steidten may stay at London Stadium as David Ornstein shares Liverpool update

West Ham United have been surrounded by plenty of speculation in recent weeks in regards to both David Moyes and Tim Steidten’s positions at the London Stadium.

Moyes has come under increased pressure from the Hammers fanbase following a recent poor run of results in the Premier League and a disappointing Europa League defeat at the hands of Freiburg on Thursday (7 March).

It appears as though the Scotsman will remain in charge at least until the end of the season, but technical director Stiedten’s future has been slightly less clear with several new links emerging at the start of 2024.

Reports from Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg (31 January) suggested that the former Bayer Leverkusen man was a candidate for the sporting director role at Liverpool as they prepare to rebuild after Jurgen Klopp’s departure.

However, it appears as though those in charge at Anfield have gone in a different direction, with David Ornstein reporting via X on Friday (8 March) that Michael Edwards is set to return to Merseyside in a senior role, with Richard Hughes joining as sporting director.

Writing on X, The Athletic journalist said: “Michael Edwards close to agreeing senior role with FSG, including oversight of Liverpool football ops. If he accepts, Richard Hughes is set to join Liverpool as sporting director.

“Not done but talks advancing and resolution is expected early next week.”

Will Tim Steidten leave West Ham United for Liverpool?

While nothing has been confirmed by Liverpool yet, it seems incredibly unlikely at this moment in time that Steidten will join the ranks at Anfield and ditch West Ham after only a year at the London Stadium.

The German has been linked with a similar position at Newcastle United and while that move could still remain a possibility, there has been little indication that he would be eager to make the jump to St James’ Park.

Hopefully, the Hammers will do all that they can to keep Steidten in East London as he has been crucial to the Irons’ immense success in the last two transfer windows.
