West Ham should try and sign David Luiz in January
West Ham were one of a few clubs who reportedly offered David Luiz a contract when he left Arsenal at the end of last season.
AS claim that the Hammers, as well as several other European teams, tried to sign the 34-year-old, but he returned home to Brazil to play for Flamengo.
However, we believe that Luiz could be a useful addition for the Irons, and they should look to make a move for the former Chelsea defender in January.
Luiz has bags of Premier League experience and has played at the top level of the game for a long time.
He has been known to make mistakes in the past but seems to be wiser now and could be a good addition to David Moyes’ options in defence.
The Hammers already do have four centre-backs, but they are competing on four fronts this season, and a fifth option in Luiz could be exactly what they need.
Angelo Ogbonna missed nine games through injury in the last campaign, while Moyes doesn’t seem to trust Issa Diop fully.
Therefore, it would make sense if the Hammers signed Luiz on a short-term deal as he could cover any injuries or play instead of Diop.
Remember, he is a player who has been described as “fantastic” by Mikel Arteta and we believe he would be a great addition to this West Ham side [Arsenal’s website].
However, you could argue that any move is unlikely given that he has just joined Flamengo, but never say never in the world of football transfers.
