West Ham Fan Mailbag: Which striker should the Hammers buy in January?

Every week we’ll be asking West Ham fans on Twitter and Facebook for questions that will be answered by our correspondent, Jack Cunningham. You can join in by liking West Ham Zone on Facebook and watching out for weekly mailbag posts.

West Ham have had a fantastic start to the season in every competition; however, the squad clearly lacks a little bit of depth.

The Hammers fell to a 1-0 defeat on Saturday against Wolves, in which they barely threatened all game.

It wasn’t as if David Moyes didn’t have a full squad to pick from either, with the likes of Michail Antonio, Said Benrahma, and Pablo Fornals all starting.

However, it is very clear that they need another striker as; if Antonio isn’t at it or if he is injured, where do their goals come from?

With that in mind, we asked for your burning questions on all things West Ham for our West Ham Zone correspondent Jack Cunningham to answer, and one fan wanted to know who we believe they should sign.

Thanks for the question, Luke.

Vlahovic would be an incredible signing for the Irons.

He looks like one of the best young strikers in Europe at the moment and has already scored 12 goals this season for Fiorentina.

You mention his buyout clause but the latest reports suggest that the Serie A side want £77million for the forward [Gazzetta dello Sport].

So at the moment, with a price tag like that, he might be out of reach.

So, I believe that an ideal signing for the Irons would be Sparta Prague’s Adam Hlozek.

West Ham are said to be in pole position to sign the 19-year-old because of Daniel Kretinsky’s links with Sparta Prague [Claret & Hugh].

He also fits David Moyes’ transfer blueprint as he is young and hungry.

However, he isn’t a raw player or anything like that; he has made over 100 senior appearances for Sparta, which is incredible at his age.

There are so many reasons why he would be the ideal signing for the Irons, and if they were to sign anyone in January, I hope it is Hlozek.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers are still keeping track of a Champions League forward ahead of a potential move.
