West Ham Fan Mailbag: Should the Irons sign Andrea Belotti?

Every week we’ll be asking West Ham fans on Twitter and Facebook for questions that will be answered by our correspondent, Jack Cunningham. You can join in by liking West Ham Zone on Facebook and watching out for weekly mailbag posts.

We all know that West Ham only have one first-team striker, and you would think that they will be looking to sign another one in January.

The Hammers don’t actually have many problems scoring goals and have rattled in 14 in the league already, but if Michail Antonio suffers an injury, they are in trouble.

Therefore, another striker as either backup or as a foil for Antonio is a must for the Irons.

With that in mind, we asked for your burning questions on all things West Ham for our West Ham Zone correspondent Jack Cunningham to answer, and one fan wanted to know his view on Andrea Belotti.

This is a brilliant question, Mick, and I have to say that Belotti would be a fantastic signing for the Irons.

David Moyes’ side were linked with a January move for the 27-year-old earlier this week, and it is a move that makes so much sense [West Ham Fans.org].

His contract with Torino expires in the summer, and it doesn’t appear as if he will be signing a new deal [Fabrizio Romano].

This will force the Serie A side into a decision, and the Hammers could pounce and sign him for very little.

Belotti has an outstanding goalscoring record in Serie A with 99 goals in 250 appearances.

Now, if he can replicate that sort of goal record for the Hammers, they will have the perfect backup for Antonio.

However, would Belotti really join the Irons to be a backup? That remains to be seen, and David Moyes might be forced into playing them both.

Either way, the Irons should really be looking to do this deal.

He is a full international and, at just 27, still has a lot more to give in elite football.
