View: West Ham ace Michail Antonio shares embarrassing celebration view

West Ham striker Michail Antonio needs to focus more on rescuing his terrible form in front of goal rather than practising his celebrations in the hotel.

The Jamaican international hasn’t scored in Europe since September in what he admitted is the longest streak of not scoring in his career.

Despite his drought in front of goal, the Hammer revealed he had been practising a massive celebration ahead of the Europa League second leg tie against Lyon this evening [April 14].

He told Mirror: “It has been a little while since I scored. Because it is such a big game, I have a big-occasion celebration. You will see it tomorrow. I actually work quite hard on celebrations.

“I look at YouTube for something I feel that can go viral. There are certain things I have to practise, like when I do the worm. I knew I could do it when I was younger but now I’m thinking, ‘Can I still do it?’ So I’ll be in the hotel room doing the worm.

“Those are the types of things I do, so I hope it works out on the day. This is the longest streak (not scoring) in my career. But football is about being a team player, I believe I am bringing the team together, assisting goals, bringing players in.”

The fact he is practising his celebrations amid one of the worst goalscoring spells of his career is a little bit embarrassing.

Finish your chances.

Antonio has had an extremely tough task of leading the Irons’ line all season long.

He has been afforded no support in terms of a replacement striker which has left the burden solely on his shoulders which makes it hard to criticise the 32-year-old despite his drop in form of late.

The forward has put in some big performances when David Moyes has needed him most which has given him some leeway but he really needs to start converting chances – that is a striker’s bread and butter.

Despite not scoring since the group stage against Dynamo Zagreb in a 2-0 win, his presence up top has caused teams a lot of problems with Sevilla and Lyon seemingly unable to cope with his pace and power.

If Antonio had been finishing his chances in these games West Ham would have been out of sight.

Hopefully, the former Nottingham Forest forward scores tonight. Not only to see his celebration but if he adds goals to his game again, he would be unstoppable.

Maybe he should spend more time practising his finishing on the training pitch rather than his celebrations, considering he hasn’t done many of late.
