WHZ View: 0.05 xG - How Manuel Lanzini masterminded West Ham draw v Spurs

We have only just recovered from the rollercoaster ride which was the 3-3 draw against Spurs in the Premier League – typical West Ham United.

Nothing is ever done the easy way in East London, and after 15 minutes, it looked as though it was going to be a long afternoon for the Irons.

An own goal and goals from both Fabian Balbuena and Manuel Lanzini somehow rescued the most unlikely of draws in North London.

Lanzini entered the action with the scores at 3-0 and only 17 minutes of normal time remaining and played a massive role in earning the point.

There is only one place to start – that wonder goal.

After a scramble in the box, the ball fell to the Argentine more than 25 yards away from goal, with WyScout claiming he only had a 0.05% chance of scoring.

What happened next was one of the greatest goals in West Ham history, as the ball cannoned off the bar and post into the top corner.

The scenes that followed were one of delight and relief, as the Hammers somehow rescued a point from the most unlikely of positions.

It wasn’t just the goal that Lanzini delivered though, as he also completed 19 actions in as many minutes according to WyScout.

The 27-year-old also completed 80% of his passes and won three out of five of his duels as he masterminded a great point in these circumstances.

After the dreadful start yesterday, it wouldn’t be the biggest surprise to see Lanzini given a rare start against Manchester City on Saturday.

It is another massive game, and West Ham must start this game in the way they ended the clash with Spurs, or face another tough 90 minutes.
