Tim Steidten to rectify Guido Rodriguez mistake at West Ham amid transfer update
Tim Steidten could rectify the mistake he made in signing Guido Rodriguez for West Ham United in the summer transfer window by bringing in Josh Brownhill in January.
The Hammers made many changes to their squad over the summer in hopes of bolstering their ranks so that they could start to challenge for the European spots.
Instead, things have been far different with Julen Lopetegui’s men sitting 14th in the Premier League with hardly anything to show for their season thus far.
While some of Steidten’s transfer choices have paid off, Rodriguez’s arrival has left a lot to be desired with the Argentina international already being linked with a return to Real Betis in January [AS, 20 November].
This has sparked even more rumours regarding the West Ham squad with Josh Brownhill the latest player to be linked with a switch to the London Stadium [TBR Football, 20 November].
Why Josh Brownhill could help rectify the West Ham United mistake Tim Steidten made
This season the midfielder has been one of the Championship’s top performers as he’s already scored five goals for Burnley.
A plethora of clubs have been linked with a move for the 28-year-old and while he might be getting on a bit in terms of his career, his experience in the Premier League could help the Hammers out massively.
Rodriguez came to the London Stadium with plenty of hype but as has been made very clear this season, he’s far too slow and robust to be an effective midfielder in the top flight.
One of the Hammers’ main problem areas this term has been the centre of the park with none of their players having the sort of speed needed to make much of a difference in games.

Brownhill himself isn’t the fastest but the attacking prowess he could bring to the Hammers’ starting XI would no doubt be helpful and create more chances for the team.
These are all rumours at the moment and nothing is yet set in stone but if Rodriguez does move back to Betis in January, the money gained from his transfer would no doubt be put towards bringing Brownhill in for a cut-rate price due to the expiry of his contract at the end of the 2024/25 season.
In other West Ham news, a “power battle” has been mooted at the London Stadium between Tim Steidten and Julen Lopetegui after their performances this season.
