Summerville may have been gifted golden West Ham opportunity after Bowen news

West Ham United have been fairly poor this season thanks to the underperformance of most of their players.

Jarrod Bowen has arguably been one of the only shining lights for the Hammers since the start of the campaign with the Englishman often carrying Julen Lopetegui’s men on his back.

The fact no matter where he’s used in attack, whether it be on the right wing or as a striker, he can still perform to his best standards is yet another reason why he’s key to the Hammers’ set-up.

However, in their 5-0 defeat to Liverpool on Sunday (29 December), Bowen was forced off the pitch with an injury after a challenge from Alexis Mac Allister hindered him somewhat.

And, while the extent of the injury isn’t yet known, the fact Lopetegui said it will take a few days to assess him, could cause alarm bells to start ringing.

“I do not know exactly. We will have to assess him and we will know in the coming days,” he said in quotes relayed by the BBC Sport website (29 December).

While the loss of the Englishman is no doubt a massive blow for the Hammers, it could provide Crysencio Summerville with a golden opportunity.

How can Crysencio Summerville benefit from Jarrod Bowen being sidelined at West Ham?

The Dutchman was brought to the London Stadium in the summer transfer window as seemed to be one of the arrivals that Hammers fans were most excited about.

While it was evident West Ham’s defensive line needed reinforcement this season, their attack also suffered at points in the 2023/24 campaign.

Hence why, Summerville was brought to London by Tim Steidten to try and improve their chances of finishing the term in a European place after his 31 goals and assists in the second tier.

The former Leeds United man hasn’t been afforded much of a chance by Lopetegui this term due to the form of Bowen but with the Englishman now likely out for a little while, this could be his chance to shine.

Only time will tell what the future holds for Lopetegui and his men but if Bowen is sidelined for an extended period, he needs to entrust the talent he brought in over the summer to fill the void.
