Steidten can rectify West Ham transfer mistake with signing of Brais Mendez
West Ham were one of the most changed teams in the Premier League last season with several new faces being welcomed through the London Stadium doors.
While plenty of reinforcement was brought in, there is plenty more can come from the team, especially since they’re currently 14th in the Premier League.
The Hammers’ defence was the main area Julen Lopetegui and Tim Steidten strengthened in the summer and while other players were brought in, it feels like their focus on defence has cost them across the board.
Indeed, both Carlos Soler and Guido Rodriguez were brought in to improve their midfield ranks but at the moment, only the former is proving his worth.
However, as per a recent report from Fichajes (18 December), West Ham are now targeting Real Sociedad ace Brais Mendez to bolster their midfield ranks as a “priority”.
Why should West Ham United sign Brais Mendez?
Since the start of the season, the Hammers’ midfield has been a particular area of hindrance for Lopetegui.
While they have plenty of players who can fulfil the roles needed, they all have a similar playstyle and seem to have the same attributes.
Edson Alvarez and Rodriguez are more or less the same player and while fans were excited about the arrival of the Argentina international, it has been proven this season that he’s not quite cut out for the Premier League due to his lack of athleticism.
Mendez has contributed to six goals already this term and can be deployed anywhere across the central midfield three if needed.

This versatility alongside his attacking prowess could both end up being key in the Hammers’ quest to finish the season in the European places.
Only time will tell if they make any moves in the summer of course but if Steidten signs the Spaniard, he’d no doubt find himself getting back into the good books with fans.
