Soucek struggles in 5/10, MOTM gets 9/10 – West Ham player ratings v Arsenal

West Ham secured a huge three points against Arsenal, with Jarrod Bowen scoring the only goal in a 1-0 win at the Emirates.

Despite being under the cosh for the majority of the first half, Jarrod Bowen, as he has done on many times for West Ham, opened the scoring after 43 minutes, directing a wonderful cross from Aaron Wan-Bissaka past David Raya.

Wan-Bissaka yet again proved his worth to West Ham with another wonderful performance as the Hammers were able to maintain a clean sheet and pick up all three points.

West Ham Zone rates the performance of each player.

West Ham resolute in defence v Arsenal

Alphonse Areola – 7

Was very rarely tested in the clash but looked reliable when he was called upon.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 9

Looked solid defensively, winning the majority of his duels while providing the cross for Jarrod Bowen’s late first-half goal.

Jean-Clair Todibo – 7 (for Mavropanos 61′)

Like his teammates, Todibo did everything that was needed at the back to ensure that any threat posed by Arsenal was dealt with swiftly.

Max Kilman – 8

Very assured in defence and dealt well with any aerial threat posed by Mikel Merino. Has looked shaky in previous encounters but didn’t put a foot wrong against Arsenal.

Aaron Cresswell – 7

Graham Potter made a bold call to include him in as part of a back five, but for the large part, it paid off. Cresswell dealt well with most of the attacking threat that came his way while being tidy on the ball.

Oliver Scarles – 8

Ethan Nwaneri has been one of the standout youngsters from the Premier League this season, yet Scarles dealt with his threat very well for the large part. Was strong in the tackle and offered plenty of defensive security down the left flank.

Edson Alvarez – 7 (for Soler 88′)

Kept it simple when in possession and played a crucial role in protecting the backline. Wasn’t directly involved in many defensive actions, but his positioning forced the Gunners to attack other areas of the pitch.

James Ward-Prowse – 6

Steady midfield performance from Ward-Prowse without being a standout figure. His energy played a crucial part but was weak when protecting the Irons defence.

Tomas Soucek struggles v Arsenal

Tomas Soucek – 5

Wasteful in possession and at times struggled to match the intensity of the Arsenal midfield, making it rather easy for the hosts to carve straight through it.

Jarrod Bowen – 8 (for Ferguson 81′)

Struggled to get involved overly much in the game but showcased his ability when giving West Ham the lead after 43 minutes. Was tidy when on the ball and was relentless in his work off of it. Every week, Bowen’s importance to the Irons grows more and more.

Mohammed Kudus – 7

Always busy in the game and caused problems for the Arsenal backline with his ability on the ball. Found himself very isolated at times, limiting what he could do in the final third.
