Graham Potter is on course to make panic buys at West Ham United as the winter transfer window enters its final stretch.

It has been two weeks since the Irons confirmed Potter as their new head coach, but they are yet to provide him with a new signing.

The East London outfit had promised the English tactician a transfer kitty when he signed [The Times], although none of that is there to be seen yet.

According to The Guardian (22 January), Potter wants to sign a defender, midfielder and striker during the ongoing transfer window.

With less than two weeks remaining until the window closes on 3 February, West Ham are quickly running out of time to get their preferred target.

Kyle Macaulay rush suggests West Ham panic

While it may not seem like it, panic is clearly starting to set in at the London Stadium.

Nothing proves this more than the pace at which West Ham have moved to rope in Kyle Macaulay from Chelsea.

As per Jacob Steinberg, Macaulay is expected to take office at Rush Green as early as Thursday (23 January) after the Hammers agreed to an "incentivised deal" with the Blues, who initially demanded £1.5million for the analyst.

With technical director Tim Steidten already sidelined, West Ham want someone to lead their recruitment drive and that is perhaps why they have sped up the process to hire Macaulay.

Although the Scot is one of Potter's closest allies, there are no guarantees that he can hit the ground running at the London Stadium as the manager eyes three new signings in the space of 13 days.

The January transfer window has a reputation for being a difficult market to operate it and it is no different this time around.

Therefore, it would not be a surprise if the Irons are forced to resort to panic purchases as they are running out of time in the window.

Yes, they made an offer worth £57million for Jhon Duran in recent days [David Ornstein], but it is questionable that they chose to bid for a place that Aston Villa have insisted is not for sale.
