Niclas Fullkrug has saved Julen Lopetegui from West Ham United sack
Julen Lopetegui could be safe in the West Ham job for another week thanks to Niclas Fullkrug.
The Spaniard is far from a fan favourite at the London Stadium and that hasn’t been helped by a 4-1 defeat against Manchester City on 4 January.
The heavy loss away to Pep Guardiola usually wouldn’t be an issue but given that the Citizens have won just two of their last six, there was an opportunity to be taken.
As a result, many supporters have run out of patience with the former Real Madrid manager but he may find himself safe for at least another week after a late moment at the Etihad.
Niclas Fullkrug saves Julen Lopetegui at West Ham
It is safe to say, that as badly as things have gone for the new head coach in East London, they have been just as frustrating for Fullkrug.
The Germany international signed from Borussia Dortmund in the summer but has made limited appearances due to injury.
With that being said, he has now netted two Premier League goals and has shown signs of becoming a fan favourite at the London Stadium.
His second strike of the season came against Manchester City and was ultimately nothing less than a consolation in a 4-1 defeat.
With that being said, his effort is proof that the 31-year-old can score goals in Lopetegui’s system which may see David Sullivan stick by the head coach rather than pulling the trigger too quickly.

There is every chance that with regular minutes the German, Lucas Paqueta, Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen can form a formidable attacking force during the second half of the season.
Whether the ex-Wolves boss can make that work is yet to be seen but for now, it appears he is going to be given the chance to do so.
