Moyes on right track with reported West Ham transfer stance

West Ham United haven’t really got their January transfer business going just yet, despite the signing of Darren Randolph from Middlesbrough.

That’s despite manager David Moyes having to deal with injuries to the likes of Lukasz Fabianski, Ryan Fredericks, Jack Wilshere, Felipe Anderson, Andriy Yarmolenko and Michail Antonio.

So you’d think co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold would be working hard on sealing some transfers this month.

However, Football Insider reported on Tuesday that Moyes is actually having to worry about outgoings and so has told the Hammers hierarchy not to sell any more senior players during this transfer window.

Despite doubts over the long-term futures of players like Wilshere, Yarmolenko and Pablo Zabaleta, Moyes is adamant they will not be moved on until the summer at the least.

The Scot is absolutely on the right track, there. His squad is starved of both depth and quality at the moment, so he can’t afford to lose anybody else.

The best he can do at the moment is wait for the aforementioned list of players to get back fit again. That’s probably all he’s going to get, because it’s very likely Sullivan will mess up every transfer opportunity between now and the end of the month.

But he certainly shouldn’t move anyone else on. He’s short on central midfielders, so Wilshere must be kept around despite his injury problems. The same goes for Yarmolenko.

The priority should remain signing new players to supplement his squad, especially considering the relegation battle the team are in.

In other West Ham news, the club are reportedly on the tail of a former Chelsea winger who’s been starring in France.
