Julen Lopetegui to face the sack at West Ham in five days time

Julen Lopetegui could be sacked at West Ham if they fail to beat Aston Villa after it was claimed the Spaniard had two games left to save his job prior to the defeat to Manchester City.

A heavy 4-1 defeat against Man City on 4 January seemed inevitable but it piled even more pressure on Lopetegui who can certainly count his lucky stars that he is still in a job.

However, that could all change in the next week after it was reported by talkSPORT (30 December) that the Spaniard had two games left to save his job and with the defeat to City, that leaves Lopetegui with one last chance against Villa to remain at West Ham.

Failure to win that game on 10 January will all but confirm his exit from the London Stadium which has certainly been long awaited.

West Ham could be days away from a revival

Life under Lopetegui has been nothing short of miserable and that sentiment probably extends to the players given the style of play adopted under the Spaniard.

The Irons have looked devoid of confidence and ideas under his stewardship and things only look like they will get worse given the absence of Jarrod Bowen.

A change is needed for the Hammers and quite frankly, they’ve needed one for several weeks and it is somewhat baffling how Loetegui has lasted this long given the performances and results this season.

In a strange way, many supporters may be hoping for an FA Cup exit so that their club are forced into a managerial change in an attempt to revive their season which is whimpering away as each day ticks by.

A defeat would surely end the reign of Lopetegui although this has been said many times with no action to follow it. Only time will tell.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers want to sign this defender who could be sold for £20.7m.
