Julen Lopetegui can silence out-of-work manager after West Ham sack claims

Despite Julen Lopetegui’s arrival at West Ham in the summer, he has struggled to get things going with his side and the Hammers have had a poor season so far.

The Irons have rarely produced a better standard of performance than they were seeing under David Moyes last year and results have been inconsistent.

As a result, there has been continuous chatter over the future of the Spaniard at the London Stadium, including conversations behind the scenes about potential successors, including former Denmark boss Kasper Hjulmand.

Nevertheless, the 58-year-old remains in charge and will be hoping to make it three unbeaten as they prepare to face Brighton on Saturday [21 December].

However, former Malmo manager Allan Kuhn has urged Hjulmand to keep close with an exit near as he said on ViaPlay [17 December]: “It will be a fantastic opportunity. They have many resources and a fantastic team, not least offensively.

“It will be a team where he has the opportunity to succeed.

“I don’t think (the position being vacant) is just around the corner. But (Hjulmand) really needs to stick around if this can be a possibility.”

Julen Lopetegui can silence Allan Kuhn by turning it around at West Ham

There is still plenty of work to be done at West Ham, with the side sitting seven points clear of the relegation zone and delivering performances that are inconsistent, being reflected by the results.

However, it does seem as though the Hammers may have turned a slight corner or late as they are unbeaten in two games and picking up a couple of points.

Although this won’t feel like much of a transformation to West Ham supporters, Lopetegui’s side are only six points away from the top six now making them closer to European football than they are to Championship football.

When you put it in this perspective, it’s clear to see that with a run of some good results, the Hammers could certainly find themselves in a much stronger position in a few weeks time.

Furthermore, games come thick and fast over the festive period and despite some tough fixtures approaching against Liverpool and Manchester City, there is a feeling that things might be on the up at the London Stadium.

The Spanish boss has plenty of people to prove wrong especially as talks are continuing behind his back regarding potential successors. However, if he can get his team delivering on a consistent basis, he will surely silence those who didn’t think he would succeed.
