David Moyes switches formation - Predicted West Ham United XI v Manchester City

David Moyes will look to keep the hopes of European football alive once more as West Ham take on Manchester City on Sunday [May 15] at the Etihad.

The Hammers bounced back from their Europa League exit with a crushing 4-0 win against already relegated Norwich last weekend, but now they take on the reigning and defending champions in a tough away day.

Moyes masterminded a win against City in the Carabao Cup earlier this season and he will be looking to do something similar here, but he does have some big decisions to make with his team selection for the game.

In goal Lukasz Fabianski has been the undisputed number one in the Premier League and that will continue here, as he looks to prove why he deserves the spot.

Moyes is likely to switch to a five-at-the-back system for this game to contain the offensive threat that Pep Guardiola’s side carry and that should see Craig Dawson and Kurt Zouma line up alongside the experienced Aaron Cresswell in the centre.

Vladimir Coufal has been good since returning from injury and should start at right wing back, while young academy man Ben Johnson can slot in on the left to provide good defensive assuredness and a threat going forward.

Declan Rice will undoubtedly get the nod in midfield as usual, but fans may be disappointed when they see the return of Tomas Soucek alongside him rather than captain Mark Noble in what will be his final home game as a Hammer.

Ahead of them Said Benrahma is likely to miss the game with injury, so Manuel Lanzini should get the pick ahead of Pablo Fornals to add more legs in the midfield.

Michail Antonio was able to get himself back on the scoresheet against Norwich for the first time in the league since New Year’s Day and should be full of confidence, with his physical attributes enough to ruffle some feathers against a depleted City back line.

Alongside him in a more central position will no doubt be Jarrod Bowen, fresh off receiving a nomination for Premier League Player of the Year having recorded ten goals and ten assists in the competition this season.

Predicted West Ham XI vs Man City: Fabianski; Dawson, Zouma, Cresswell; Coufal, Rice, Soucek, Lanzini, Johnson; Bowen, Antonio
