David Moyes must axe Craig Dawson from playing XI for Kurt Zouma
West Ham signing Kurt Zouma should see David Moyes deploying the Frenchman at the heart of the defence alongside Angelo Ogbonna.
Craig Dawson, who was signed as a fourth-choice defender, has been handed a number of starts this calendar year after showing some impressive form.
He’s often played alongside Ogbonna and in the Italian’s absence, Issa Diop has come into the fold.
However, Zouma’s arrival should see Dawson step out of the playing eleven and possibly go back to being third or fourth in the pecking order for the Hammers.
The Englishman has started all three games for the east London outfit this season and has looked extremely shaky and error prone.
He may give the side a slight advantage with his aerial prowess, but Zouma is known to be a colossus in the air and to add to that he’s a better passer, tackler and is more mobile than the 31-year-old.
Last season, after his red card against Newcastle, Dawson was slammed for his decision making.
Speaking on Premier League Productions’ half-time show (via West Ham Zone), Alan Curbishley said: “That foul for the second yellow could have been a straight red. It was a dreadful touch followed by an even reckless challenge, what was he thinking?
“There were no complaints from him or the West Ham players, but this could prove to be bit of a blow to their top-four hopes.”
Such things could happen again and Moyes is better off playing Zouma there.
It’s why the club have shelled out the big bucks for the France international and he will have to start proving himself soon.
We’re excited to see what he brings to the table and Dawson must be left out to make way for him.
