Amanda Staveley drops new investment hint amid West Ham United speculation
West Ham United’s focus at this moment in time is on the summer transfer window with the deadline at the end of August quickly approaching.
However, there are matters both off of the field looming in the background at the London Stadium, one of which is Vanessa Gold’s decision to consider selling a portion of her stake in the Hammers.
Although nothing is set in stone at this moment in time, Sean Whetstone who runs the West Ham Football X account has suggested former Newcastle chief Amanda Staveley could be interested.
Writing on X on Monday (29 July) Whetstone said: “It would be surprising if Amanda Staveley & PCP Capital Partners don’t kick the tyres at West Ham at a possible investment.
“Staveley sold 5.7% of Newcastle United last week and is said to want a new project in football…
“Nine months ago, Vanessa Gold announced she was considering selling a proportion of his family’s 25% in West Ham with Rothschild & Co acting as advisors.
“Buying a minority stake in West Ham could help Staveley & her firm broker a much larger deal in the future from within to make a potential takeover bid at a later date. Just speculation at this stage but never say never!”
Will Amanda Staveley take over West Ham United after Newcastle United exit?
As Whetstone suggests, investment from Staveley remains nothing more than speculation at this stage, but she may now have dropped a hint in a new interview to suggest that she would consider taking on a role at a new club.
As quoted by The Athletic on Tuesday (30 July) she said: “Mehrdad and I are keen to be hands-on. We’re hard-working people, I love to be very busy and to engage and I love football.
“Very sadly, we have to move on to other projects and that might involve us taking a stake in another club or buying another club and that’s difficult. But it’s possible.”
With Staveley’s admission that it is “possible” she and PCP Capital Partners could look to invest in a new club, you have to wonder if the project at the London Stadium would appeal to them in the future.
Obviously, nothing is set in stone and it will take much more than a few hints in interviews to get the ball rolling on potential investment or even a takeover, but it seems as though there is potential for something there.
This could be something to watch in the coming months at the London Stadium once the transfer window is out of the way.
