Edson Alvarez is going to get Lopetegui sacked as West Ham United exit news emerges

Edson Alvarez’s idiotic red card in Nottingham Forest v West Ham arguably cost his side the game but it may end up costing Julen Lopetegui his job.

The Mexican international received two yellow cards for two needless fouls in the first half when his side were trailing 1-0. The first for a shirt pull before needlessly lunging into a challenge on the stroke of halftime to receive his marching orders.

The Hammers would go on to lose 3-0 but his liability could cost Lopetegui his job with the Spaniard reportedly on the verge of sack.

With the Spaniard already under pressure at the London Stadium, a win at Nottingham Forest was crucial and at 1-0 down, the Hammers had every chance of finding a way back into the game.

That was until a brainless challenge from Alvarez reduced them to ten men, leaving them to fight an uphill battle against a team in a rich vein of form in Nottingham Forest.

Alvarez has been accused of being a liability and it is hard to argue against that after what he did.

The second challenge especially is completely unnecessary and not one you would expect from someone as experienced as Alvarez.

Lopetegui looks all but test to lose his job at the club after what has been a dismal start to the campaign and former Hammers assistant manager and ex-Borrusia Dortmund manager Edin Terzic may be his successor.

If West Ham do pull the trigger, they need to do it soon or else their hopes of achieving any kind of success this season continue to diminish.

Terzic has been out of work since leaving Signal Iduna Park in June 2024.

In other West Ham news, Arsenal are reportedly “lining up” a £90 million move for Hammers star Mohammed Kudus ahead of the January transfer window.
