Aaron Wan-Bissaka vindicates Tim Steidten summer transfer decision
West Ham haven’t had a great deal of joy this season despite spending a considerable amount of money in the summer transfer window.
The Hammers’ aspirations have dulled since the arrival of Julen Lopetegui, who was supposed to revive the team after David Moyes left the club.
Tim Steidten pulled off some impressive deals for the Spaniard, signing the likes of Max Kilman, Jean-Clair Todibo, Niclas Fullkrug and World Cup winner Guido Rodriguez.
The Irons are yet to see the best of these players, though, and what should’ve turned out to be a game-changing summer can now be considered dire – for now, at least.
Steidten has come under fire, especially for the Fullkrug transfer, but Aaron Wan-Bissaka has certainly gone some way to sparing his blushes.
The former Manchester United right-back has been one of the best players in his position anywhere in the Premier League this season, making it into WhoScored’s Premier League Team of the Month for October [29 October].
Aaron Wan-Bissaka resurgence at West Ham
The 26-year-old was one of the most talented youngsters during his time at Crystal Palace, and it was no surprise to see him sign for Manchester United at the time.
But the Englishman failed to develop his reputation at Old Trafford and saw his reputation falter.
While the right-back’s signing wasn’t the most glamorous one the Irons made in the summer transfer window, it has undoubtedly turned out to be a shrewd one.
Wan-Bissaka has turned out to be an upgrade over Vladimir Coufal, and it feels like the 26-year-old has properly cemented his place in the team.
The English right-back has started the last seven games in the league for the Hammers, and hopefully he can continue putting in impressive performances like he did against Manchester United.
Do that and this a deal Steidten can be more than pleased with.
