Kieran Maguire fires tongue-in-cheek jab over ‘lucrative’ pay packet with West Ham director included

Football finance expert Kieran Maguire has launched a cheeky jibe at the West Ham board over their lucrative end-of-season pay packet for their director.

Whilst Maguire didn’t call out West Ham Non-Executive Directors Albert smith and Daniel Harris or Executive Director Tara Warren directly, he did highlight one of their end-of-season earnings.

Maguire took to Twitter to show a table of the “Highest Paid Directors” in the Premier League at the end of the 2021/2022 season, with the Hammers sitting in third place.

Only Tottenham and Manchester United paid their highest-earning director more than West Ham, with the London club forking out £2m+.

Maguire again highlighted the crazy sums of money being thrown about in the English top flight, something that won’t be changing anytime soon.

West Ham

Scrutiny.

Fans will likely meet Maguire’s tables with a fair amount of scrutiny and be asking themselves why anyone is actually being paid that much money.

However, this is part and parcel of the modern game and what happens when you are part of the crown jewel in the United Kingdom’s economy.

The Premier League is running at an all-time high status and has overtaken its European top five competitors with relative ease in recent years.

Massive transfers, a more competitive league and a global appeal are just a few of the reasons why so much money is being pumped into it.

Directors at the football clubs at the pinnacle of English football are now evidently profiting from this also, it’s bizarre to think that these are the same teams who were struggling not so long ago due to the global pandemic.

Whatever your opinion is on the end-of-season wages to directors, it’s likely that they will only get even grander in the coming years.
