Aaron Cresswell makes David Sullivan exit plea amid West Ham United ‘limbo’ after Wolves fail with three transfer bids

Aaron Cresswell has made a “plea” to West Ham owner David Sullivan to let him leave after being left in “limbo” at the club, according to Alan Nixon.

Wolves want the long-time Hammers favourite but have reportedly tabled three bids without success, after a £2million offer rejected.

The Hammers took up the option in his contract for another year and are looking for more money, which The Guardian reported on 19 July could be as much as £5m.

According to Nixon, via Patreon on 30 July, Cresswell, 33, wants to be closer to the north-west and is hoping that the West Ham owner accepts an offer to let him go now.

Shut down

There are obvious parallels with Craig Dawson’s own move from the London Stadium to Molineux, which went through for £3.3m in the winter window [Sky Sports, 22 January].

In both cases the veteran defenders wanted to be closer to family in the north and were seen to have more than paid their dues in East London.

Dawson stayed for an extra window after an injury crisis at the start of the season, while Cresswell has been mooted to be making a move such as this for at least a year.

West Ham

After 331 West Ham appearances, and having increasingly shared his starting berth with Emerson, it seems like it would be worthwhile to get the deal done.

The fact that there is an asking price suggests the Irons are ready to let him go, so haggling over a couple more million just plays into the constant struggle to get anything done this summer since Declan Rice left.

Clearly West Ham aren’t a charity, but with Wolves struggling to sign anyone thanks to their FFP worries it is some achievement that they’ve put any money on the table, and having managed to get £100m guaranteed out of Arsenal for the former captain it might be time to stop playing hard ball and actually get things moving.

The time to hit the perfect value on every deal arguably finished just after the club stuck successfully to its guns on Rice, and now the lack of any follow-up business is becoming a real mess, and having an unhappy veteran player begging to leave is hardly a great look.

David Moyes needs his squad sorted out quickly and the club can’t keep acting like it has all the time in the world to do it.

In other West Ham news, a bid has come in for a key Irons target from his former manager in the latest threat to an incoming transfer reports Fabrizio Romano.
