'West Ham may seal Tomiyasu transfer after Arsenal exit' amid Wan-Bissaka status

Martin Allen

Martin Allen, better known as "Mad Dog" was a real fan favourite at West Ham when he made over 200 appearances for the Hammers between 1989 and 1995. After hanging up his boots after spells at QPR, West Ham, Portsmouth and Southend, Allen entered management with the likes of Barnet, Brentford, MK Dons, Leicester and Notts County. We're now delighted to have Martin as our new West Ham Zone expert.

West Ham could make a free transfer swoop for Takehiro Tomiyasu this summer.

The Japan international had played a regular role as a squad player for Arsenal since signing from Bologna back in 2021.

Now, the 26-year-old finds himself without a club after departing the Emirates at the end of the campaign after just one appearance under Mikel Arteta last season.

This could prompt Graham Potter and Co. to step in and make an offer for the versatile defender before he agrees to a move elsewhere.

West Ham to consider Tomiyasu signing

It does appear that strength in depth throughout the Irons' squad is going to be a necessary requirement moving into another year of Premier League action.

This will especially be the case in the backline, especially after the departure of Aaron Cresswell to Stoke City at the end of his deal in E20.

With that being said, it could prove to be beneficial to the finances for David Sullivan to directly replace him and add to the side with another free agent.

This has seen former Brentford and Leicester City boss Martin Allen put Tomiyasu forward as a potential consideration by the Hammers this summer.

Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, Allen said: "He's quick, strong and looks like he's got a great attitude.

"Again, his injury record is a problem. Last season, one of West Ham's best players was Wan-Bissaka, so he probably wouldn't come in as a right-back.

"I've seen him play as a left-back and as a centre-back at times for Arsenal, he's very versatile.

"He's got experience, and that's something that has been missing, so he may be a consideration."

Tomiyasu could kickstart summer business at West Ham

There is certainly a risk involved when signing a player with so little gametime under their belt in the past 12 months.

Given the state that the Irons find themselves in right now, a risk may just be what they need to take moving deeper into the summer window at the London Stadium.

Potter is yet to confirm a signing, with frustration emerging at West Ham as the lack of backing for the Englishman becomes more apparent.

The signing of Tomiyasu wouldn't necessarily be one to excite supporters, but would certainly get the revolving door spinning in what should have been a busy Rush Green summer.
